Cleaning Up Ink Stains

The task of cleaning up an ink stain can be either quick and painless or aggravating and next to impossible. There are different types of ink stains you can be faced with.

Water Based Ink Stains

With an absorbent cloth or towel, apply water to the ink stain. Right away with a dry white towel, blot away at the stain. You should see the ink transferring to the towel. Apply regular laundry liquid detergent on the affected are and let it sit for 4-5 minutes. Wash the fabric with warm water and if the stain is gone, dry and your done. If not, repeat the steps.

Permanent Ink Stain

Permanent ink stains are one of the hardest stains to remove. Because the concentration of the ink varies from source to source, you have to go through many different solutions before you find one that cleans up the ink stain.

Get your hands on an absorbent cloth or towel. Choose a small area on you cloth/towel that you will be able to dab at the ink stain with and apply a layer of of the solution. With the solution treated cloth/towel, dab at the affected area and blot with a dry towel.

Order of solution testing:

-Rubbing Alcohol

-Hair Spray

-Nail Polish Remover

-Acetone

-Baking Soda and Water Solution

If the ink stain still remains after washing, try repeating the baking soda step again before rewashing and drying. If one solution does not adequately solve the problem, move down to the next in the order these cleaners are given. Do not apply solutions directly onto surface.
