Isn’t it amazing how we do not notice how much clutter has accumulated in our homes until we find ourselves knee deep in it? Magazines, cardboard boxes, papers, notebooks, old furniture, clothes, and other things find themselves in our closets, shelves, cupboards, attics, garages, etc. Often we are not aware of how much gold there is in our homes. There is truth to the saying that one man’s trash is another’s treasure. Here are 7 quick steps to de-clutter your home in an instant:

  1. Hold a rummage sale. Go through the clutter that you have accumulated and see if there is anything that other people might be interested in buying. These days, there is a market for almost every item. You can also try selling rare items that you might have online on websites like eBay, Craigslist or Amazon.
  2. Take your old clothes to the Salvation Army. You may have outgrown a couple of clothing items throughout the years or perhaps your clothes have fallen out of fashion with you. In any case, you can make a few bucks off of your old clothes by selling them to the Salvation Army or to Good Will. You will also be helping the less fortunate.
  3. Visit a recycling centre. If you have cardboard boxes, glass bottles, magazines, old notebooks, and the like lying around, don’t throw them out! Visit a recycling centre and lessen your carbon footprint by making a contribution for the good of Mother Earth. Future generations will benefit and thank you for it.
  4. Throw out what you do not need. If you have somehow managed to accumulate a thousand bottle caps, used stamps, receipts or anything that is remotely useless, now is probably the time to let it go and throw it out. Not only are you wasting precious space in your home, it is also an eyesore. You wouldn’t want to be the guest featured on the show Hoarders, would you?
